The title "Holostrangenon" is a coined term combining the philosophical concept of "Holon" with the English word "strange."
"Holon" itself is a preexisting coined term derived from "Holos" (meaning "whole") and "On" (meaning "part" or "individual"). It refers to a concept in which the individual parts, though heterogeneous, come together in a harmonious whole, or where something functions as both a part and a whole simultaneously.
A clear example of this is biological organs. If the "whole" is the human body, then organs such as the heart and lungs are "parts" that constitute it. While the heart and lungs have entirely different functions, they exist in harmony within the whole of the body—and even those organs can be seen as "wholes" composed of smaller "parts" like cells.
This concept is highly versatile and can be applied to all kinds of systems—it’s no exaggeration to say that the entire universe is structured in this way.
By combining it with "strange," I created "Holostrangenon" to express the idea that:
"When viewed from the perspective of the whole, the individual parts may appear bizarre or counterintuitive, yet the whole remains in harmony."
This idea represents a core concept that runs through my current body of work.
At the human scale, the microscopic world of atoms and fundamental particles behaves in very strange and unintuitive ways. Yet we go about our daily lives unaware—or perhaps indifferent—to these underlying phenomena.
Through my work, I hope to offer a glimpse into this worldview, to make people more aware of how limited our human-defined perspective truly is, and perhaps to inspire a shift in how we perceive the world.
